Lower School Auditions
Auditions for entry into Ballet Tech's Beginner's program are held each fall and spring in public elementary schools in Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. All New York City public school children in grades 2-5 are eligible to audition for Ballet Tech and no previous dance experience is necessary. Auditions are scheduled through the elementary school's principal, and are held during the school day. To conduct the auditions, Ballet Tech sends a team of instructors to each school who lead the students through a simple series of exercises designed to assess a child's athleticism, flexibility and musicality.
Students selected through this audition process are invited to attend an eight-week Beginner program held each winter at Ballet Tech. In the spring, students are invited back for Level I, an additional eight-week program. Students who show the most promise are invited to enroll at the Ballet Tech School full-time for the following school year, entering the 4th-6th grade.
Open Auditions
Supplementing the public elementary school auditions, Ballet Tech holds additional open auditions for students in grades 3-12 throughout the year. Specific open audition dates for the current year can be found here: Open Audition Dates.
Please call 212-777-7710 ext 300 to register for an open audition.
Audition Requirements
Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 are not required to have had any previous ballet training. For the audition, children should wear form-fitting clothing (leggings, tights or shorts) and will be asked to remove their shoes. If children have their own ballet clothing (leotard, tights, and ballet slippers), they should wear it to the audition.
Students in grades 6-12 are required to have had previous ballet training and should wear their own dancewear and shoes to the audition.
